“My ceramic sculptures may resemble mutated flora, amoebas, ashen wings, creatures of the deep, and fleshy mechanical-organic hybrids, inspired by sci-fi parables. The sculptures often incorporate found non-biodegradable, discarded materials like plastic netting and synthetic fur as well as natural elements like oak moss, granite and shells. These ceramic organisms offer glimpses of earthly renewal and hope for our ecologically desperate yet adaptive future, asking the viewer to consider what evolutionary fate is awaiting us.

I often think of my process as one of uncovering––like an archeologist digging for fossils or totems, I use similar tools and brushes to bring forth these ceramic forms that resemble both the future and the past. Dusting off the bits of dried clay that's been carved, I unveil a new form. Perhaps it's an artifact from the future, from a time to come wherein our biology has reorganized or broken down.” - Emily Llamazales
