Parable of a Late Bloomer
‘Parable of a Late Bloomer’ stands as the source of inspiration for my solo exhibition, a theme that reverberates with profound personal resonance. With the theme ‘Parable of a Late Bloomer’, unable to read and write with no knowledge of self and awareness of what school was meant for, disconnection was imminent.
Parable of a Late Bloomer solely expresses the disconnection I had from the educational system, the alienation from peers in the intellectual domain, and the pain I endured because of my inadequacies. While other children reveled in their individual identities for the fact they could read and write, I on the other hand have always carried the curse of not knowing. Likewise, that of inferiority.
This piece equally highlight a conscious effort elders make in the observation of the little human behaviors. As shown here, the elderly figure is not wearing a happy face, because she knows one of her own is troubled.
I create portals in the form of doorways in these paintings to allow my audience to travel back in time with me and through this work relive a memory from their past that means something to them. Invoking a fresh feeling of cleansing. Delving deeper into reliving memories, I create a soft ambiance of evening suggesting a long walk to intellectual freedom. Hence, The Late Bloomer.
