Luxury of Knowledge
In "The Luxury of Knowledge," I paint a vivid tapestry of contrast, where two worlds collide and diverge. The backdrop of my journey, marked by the inability to read and write, gave rise to a climate of fear within my educational system, turning what should have been an innate hunger for learning to a child into a recurring nightmare. Within the frame, three figures stand in stark contrast. Among them is the younger version of myself with a halo, a distinct entity in terms of intelligence, incomparable to the profound knowledge my brothers possessed. This piece seeks to illuminate the intriguing notion that biological kinship and shared experiences can coexist with vastly different outcomes. Inspired by the rich, brownish hues of the retrograde color language associated with the iconic Louis Vuitton luxury brand, I embark on a narrative journey. Here, I recount the intellectual desolation of my childhood, using the classroom as a canvas for this chapter of my life.
Side by side, I introduce Louis Vuitton's opulent brand as the floor tile design—a metaphor that beautifully conveys the luxury of knowledge I now possess. One might wonder what transpired between the darkness of ignorance and the brilliant revelation of wisdom. To this, I offer a simple answer: I stepped out of the classroom, through the bright door, and found myself. Or perhaps, I should say, I discovered myself. Beyond that radiant threshold lies the culmination of my journey, and it's the result you see before you today.
