Community of Human Meaning

Community of human meaning (Red cloak of mothers touch)

In this captivating painting, our gaze is drawn to a gallant male figure draped in a striking red cloak, a distinguished emblem of a mother's touch. It conjures visions of an era characterized by tight-knit community living, a time when harmony and coexistence were paramount.

The cloak, steeped in cultural significance, speaks to the profound role mothers have played in instilling moral values and discipline in the lives of their children. Embedded within the canvas is a poignant adage from my culture: "One person doesn't raise a child; the whole village does." This saying underscores the communal essence of humanity, a concept woven into the very fabric of our lives.

At the lower section of the painting, a group of women joyously celebrates and dances, each adorned with a traditional hair tie known as "Igele," a symbol of pride and prestige. This attire is not just an accessory; it carries the weight of their contributions. Every woman in this vibrant tableau has played a pivotal role in sending the young man to the university, as evidenced by the red hair ties they all proudly wear. It's a harmonious visual representation of unity and collaborative teamwork within the community.

This painting serves as a tribute, a heartfelt reminder that women's financial contributions to the upbringing of a child and their support through higher education are often overlooked. "Red Cloak of Mother's Touch" beckons us to revisit our collective past, to remember who we once were and how we thrived as one. It encourages us to recognize and appreciate the boundless love of our mothers, a love that has resided silently in the background for so long.
